‘Gothic’ was originally a pejorative term, conjured in the Renaissance, to describe the art and architecture of the later middle ages. The idea was that it somehow represented the confused and irrational efforts of the barbarians who had destroyed the Roman Empire. We beg to differ! On this short course we will sample the heights of High Gothic architecture in Europe, and enjoy the exquisite delights of the International Gothic style of sculpture and manuscript art.
